The test of one's commitment to freedom of speech is one's willingness to stand up for those who express not only minority opinions or even opinions held by a fraction of a minority, but opinions held to be repugnant by the vast majority. Doug Christie passed that test with flying colours.Gerry T. And I too nod to Christie, who, while I may not have agreed with many of his positions, or that of many he chose to defend, was nevertheless a tireless advocate of freedom of speech, and his passing means we have lost another brave individual, willing to stand up for such, including the right of those holding some of the most unpopular PsOV to express themselves. (I may not be sympathetic to Voltaire himself, but I've always liked his line, "I may disagree with what you say, but I defend to the death your right to say it.) Sad, indeed; a Canadian champion of freedom is gone. Will S.https://www.blogger.com/profile/02714519301979594160noreply@blogger.com
